 BIOGRAPHY

Christos Calivas lives and works in southern Maine, and spends part of his time in Greece and Key West, Florida.   In addition to being a full time painter, he is an avid sailor, a licensed Merchant Marine Captain, holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, is a musician with an interest in Middle Eastern, Armenian and Greek Music, and more.  Christos brings to his painting the richness of all these experiences, which for him is an expression of the world he loves.  His passion for sailing and the outdoor world is reflected in his subject matter, which often encompasses waterfront wharfs and vessels, reflected buildings, the sky and water in its infinite variations of color and light.  In his most recent body of work, Calivas turned his artistic lens toward his family village in Greece, and has created work which is visually beautiful and engaging, as well as deeply personal and meaningful. Exhibiting his work both locally and nationally, his gallery representation includes: Gingerbread Square Gallery, Key West, Florida; Soprafina Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts; The Barn Gallery, Ogunquit, Maine; Mast Cove Gallery, Kennebunkport, Maine; Mllbrook Gallery and Sculpture Garden, Concord, New Hampshire; and Scarlet Galleries, Burlington, Vermont.
